MILD AMERICA: Coriander and Heaven EP
By Lucy Mullinger
If you like Kiwi- styled indie/Americana/folk music and you have a great relationship with your mum, Mild America’s new album ought to be for you. The album begins with Rosemary and Love, a mixture of quiet guitar strumming and a sweet combination of creator Mark Brenndofer with his mother’s melodic vocals. New Prospects, 1896 follows in a similar vein with a familiar strumming of the guitar and more sweet singing from the family duo. The title song excites the senses with what sounds like wine glasses being hit by a spoon before the music goes back to more quiet strumming duets. The Lighthouse concludes the EP with some arduous strumming, the song finally picking up with more harmonious vocals and an electronic guitar riff for a stronger finish. Sweet and light, it could do with a dose of energy and passion to shake things up a little more.
