Unique: Jerry for W.A.
By Glen Davison
The second release on Kog's hip hop sub-label Dirty sees the debut from W.A. (west Auckland's) Unique. Previously heard rhyming on the 'starf*ckers' compilation and Major Flavours 2, Unique caught the ear of Dirty Records leading to his track with P Money - Stay Dirty, which appeared on P's album 'Big Things'. On 'Jerry for W.A', production duties are handled mostly by Unique himself, which is less emphasised than his 'gutter-mouf-emcee' image for some reason. Only three of the 17 tracks are from other beat-makers, namely 41:30, Therapy and P-Money. The beats suit the harder lyrics with very few 'singy' choruses and some tasty cuts provided by D Form throughout the album. Unique's MC style follows the more braggadocio style as he depicts life as he sees it from Te Atatu South. Collaborators include Blazedone and Dawn Raid MCs from R.E.S and Deceptikonz.
