Hobnail Boots: On With The Show

By Tony Parker
With two records and a great deal of local and overseas live work behind them Wellington band Hobnail Boots has established a solid fan base for their Celtic tinged music In 2000 mainstays Rob Joass and Jo Moir took time out to start a family and reflect on their musical travels. 'On With The Show' is the result of this hiatus and it's a mature and reflective effort that goes beyond the Celtic muse of their previous work to bring out the folk and country elements that have always been inherent in what they do. Mostly acoustic, there is a warmth and friendliness to the record that is a tribute to the pair's vocals and Joass' production. The departure from making a full band record has also meant that Joass could call on various Wellington musicians such as Steve Roche (Brainchilds) and Alan Norman (Warratahs) to help bring about a sound that is more back porch Sunday afternoon than late night Irish bar.
