EQWANOX: All Roads Lead From Here
By Ania Glowacz
Eqwanox throw down the gauntlet early with Killing Time, an instantly catchy punk singalong, complete with fat bass and a tight music section. This band of four have refined their craft on the road away from Te Awamutu – and it shows. They’ve played support to the likes of Billy Corgan and Seether, along with local acts Bleeders, Autozamm and The Rabble – in good company and deservedly so. With help from Chazz Rabble in the production chair, there is also a healthy Bleeders influence in this tight little production, which overall sits closer to the Elemeno P end of things. Youthful energy is evident throughout – not surprising as the bulk of the material was apparently written whilst the band were in their teens. It’s all very grown up by now though and ready to graduate. The only criticisms I have are of too many ‘woah-oh-ohs’ and being a bit too ‘nice’... Still, this will deservedly hit the spot with many and points towards a bright future.
