Pierre Wauters: Nouveau Piano - Travelling Within
By Nick Batt
Pierre Wauters could well be NZ's answer to Yanni, albeit without the orchestra. In this debut release he blends European classical style and technique with acid jazz and dance beats to produce a sound he calls 'acid classic'. Wauters not only composed all 11 tracks but also arranged, recorded, mixed and, with the exception of some guitar (Andrew Smith), and female vocals (Saskia Smith), played all of the instruments Ð at times layering up to four pianos. Paul Jones at MeyerSmith Studio mastered the album. Originally from Belgium, Wauters trained in classical piano, guitar and saxophone and gained experience playing at cabarets and touring with choir groups. Fundamentally an instrumental album, 'nouveau piano' offers an interesting mix of acoustic and electronic sounds which combine to produce a sound that is quite unique. If your passion is for piano and you are not adverse to experimentation then this could be your album.
