MILE HIGH: #957 EP

By Lisa Rapley
Five-piece rock band Mile High are only just getting started, but by the sounds of it they are going to be the kind to produce hit after hit, certainly all four tracks on their first EP sound like they could be hits. They are catchy and make you want to jump around, all reminiscent of an established band or song, but managing to evade pinpointing just which. They don’t sound like something new, but are somehow quite different. Their first single Now made it on to last year’s RockFM 1000 top songs. Kansas does start off sounding like Follow The Yellow Brick Road, but by the end we’re not in Kansas anymore. (Yeah, I went there.) The album was produced by Andrew Buckton at Studio 203 in Auckland. Album artwork by Jason Sokolich is interesting and follows the theme of being a mile high, but the band maintains they have no affiliation with the club. If this is just an introductory EP their full album should prove very interesting.
