Jason Menard: Elsewhere

This quirky recording is the product of visionary songwriter Jason Menard. Like all visionaries the results are not always complete but almost always interesting. Menard grew up in Wisconsin USA before shifting to NZ and attending the Nelson School of Music's Contemporary Music Performance Course, during which he became known for his creative stage performances and addictive energy. This is his third album, which he recorded and produced using the school's studio. While the result is a bit raw, it doesn't detract from the energy and enthusiasm of the more than thirty musicians, many commandeered from the NSOM where Menard now teaches, that were involved. The album is mainly folk rock but is eccentric enough to allow that definition to be only applied loosely. While Menard doesn't sing, he does play guitar and other instruments on all of the tracks and wrote all of the songs. If you are after something different - this is it.
