KIDZ IN SPACE: Episode 001 - Chasing Hayley EP

By Jonny Carson
Kidz In Space have blasted onto the scene with their debut EP ‘Episode 001: Chasing Hayley’ providing a much needed injection of oomph into NZ hip hop. Comparable with the likes of Black Eyed Peas and LMFAO these space cadets fuse elements of hip hop, RnB and electronica while retaining a distinct Aotearoa flavour. Their story goes they became disillusioned with the state of music on earth, boarded the Spaceship Synthesizer, explored the outer limits of the universe for the finest in alien audio and returned to earth with an extraterrestrial band to create ‘out of this world’ music. ‘Episode 001: Chasing Hayley’ is the fruit of this adventure, a journey through love, loss, and outer space. The debut single Downtime has been doing damage on the NZ Charts for 10 weeks now and is definitely the strongest track, an outright dance banger with hooky melodies, driving synths and a touch of vocoder. Other standouts include Beauty Queen and Ocean of Drugs. Exceptionally produced by KIS member/beatmaker Josh Fountain, this debut release is rightly earning them attention both here and abroad. These guys are definitely heading out of this world – one small step for Kidz In Space, one giant leap for NZ hip hop.
