LEFT OR RIGHT: Nuggety

If you like your reggae mixed in with a big hit of Kyuss, then you’ve come to the right place. Clearly primarily a live band, Left Or Right hail from Dunedin. The three members are Callum Hampton, Metua Marama and Stephen Marshall. Metal and reggae? How long have we waited for a band that can do both well? It’s that classic NZ summer reggae feel coupled with some mean wall of sound Kyuss-type riffs. First track Hitchy also includes some nice Specials-type horns, so the palette is a broad and thoughtful one. This is the band’s debut release and bodes well. Available on collectors’ edition brown 12" vinyl, CD, online, and very kindly, on cassette “for those still with tape players in the car”. Basically, this band can go in any direction. Dub it up, space it out or just lay it down. Whilst they may borrow from every decade, they put it together very well – a Kora from the south perhaps. A live sounding recording but with none of the roughness. Totally reggae with a few very cool surprises up its sleeve. Check it out.
