Paradigm: Process
By Glen Davison
New kids on the local drum 'n bass scene, Paradigm announce their arrival by releasing 'Process' somewhat out of the blue. Recently touring extensively around the country, the Auckland duo introduced themselves and their album as a live act to widespread approval. Ensuring a few ears hear their take on things local D'n'B 'hot tickets' Concord Dawn lent a hand as their nationwide support act. Recorded over 12 months the album incorporates many elements of the D'n'B spectrum, balancing the harder club rhythms with dreamy soundscapes and hints at the jazzier Roni Size-type style. Sequencing with overlapping intros/outros separating the tracks but eliminating the audible gaps in between helps to replicate the Paradigm live show. While this album is a good indication of influence and production skill, the real test will be whether or not Paradigm can stay current in the fickle world of drum 'n bass. Out on Tardis Music.
