PSYROK & LIL SISTER JEN: Akinosuke

By Ania Glowacz
Get past the slightly clumsy moniker and inside you’ll find a surprisingly luscious sonic delight. This is something a bit special and fans of Portishead or Massive Attack will be duly impressed. Psyrok is Si White of Wellington, a producer and musician. Lil Sister Jen is the vocalist but also much more. The two collaborators have never met or even spoken to each other – by the magic of the interweb, Psyrok managed (after some time) to track down a vocalist to do justice to his compositions – all the way from Sweden! Jenny Larsson, who is vocalist for her own band Sneezing Habit, lends not only an evocative, strong and expressive vocal to some well constructed and largely rather original tracks, but provides the beautiful wintry cover photograph. Whilst this may be a collaboration, Ms Larsson manages to make it sound like her own; and, that being the case, perhaps all music should be made this way. An amalgam of folk, electronica, dub and goth. A lovely surprise – available as a free download or limited edition EP, there’s something a bit magic about this.
