IVY ROSSITER: Little Isles
By Simon Sweetman
Ivy Rossiter is an Auckland-based singer/songwriter creating pleasant if uneventful songs – a mix of pop and rock with some indie charm, but it’s all very safe and rather pedestrian. The five songs on this EP are barely distinguishable from one another – or her influences – there’s an obvious yearning to be Ani Di Franco but she doesn’t quite seem to have Ani’s energy and passion lyrically or musically. The second track, Four Years, draws a little too heavily from the bass line from Pink Floyd’s Money. Not a way to get ahead. But, ironically, it’s one of the more exciting moments on this disc. This is not awful by any means, but unless you’re a friend or family member of Rossiter or band then it’s probably going to pass you by. Unless maybe you’ve been to a gig? Well, in that case you’ve probably heard this music already and perhaps you bought the five-track EP on the way out the door. Fair enough if you did.
