RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE: Mixed By Import

Full credit to Import, the dude is a talented drum and bass DJ. He is a proficient mixer and plays tasteful DJ sets. As expected then, this mix CD is well arranged and supports Import’s deserved win of last year’s Rumble In The Jungle drum and bass DJ competition; which is of course what led to the CD. However, I’m not sold on the playlist. While carrying quality material like JPS & Hooves’ remix of Nevermind by Benny Tones and Mara TK, and A Billi – Optimus Gryme & Billy Fluid’s dubstep take on Lil Wayne’s A Milli, there is a lot of third-tier drum and bass/breaks and dubstep on this disc. The reality is Empathy Recordings (who released this CD) are predominantly a digital-release MP3 label; and that puts a damper on the calibre of tunes they can successfully sign up.
