JACQUI FITZGERALD: The Masquerade Is Over

‘Dear John, how I hate to write…’ Many will still remember the award-winning BASF advert which made jazz vocalist Jacqui Fitzgerald a household name in the mid 1980s. Originally released in ’85, ‘The Masquerade Is Over’ wowed jazz fans and won her the Jazz Album of the Year. Critics raved about her deep silky tones and her unique approach to the music. Unfortunately the album was not remastered onto CD and a new generation of jazz fans never knew what they had missed – until now. This re-mastered and re-issued CD will make a welcome and long overdue addition to many jazz fans’ music collections. It features some of NZ’s best known musical names of the time, like Mike Walker, Andy Brown, Frank Gibson Jnr, Brian Smith and Martin Winch, and has a previously unreleased track with Body and Soul. Brimming with beautiful songs and sung with passion, this album is a welcome reminder of one of Aotearea’s unique jazz talents.
