KAPABLE: Before Now

By Andrew Hughes
Respected and dedicated Wellington hip hop artist Kapable delivers a selection of hard-hitting tracks, showcasing real talent backed by solid production work on this sophomore album. The MC's point-making rhyme style is focused and doesn't move far from the topic outlined in the chorus, be it the state of hip hop, working hard or the negativity of others, while maintaining an introspective angle. Even Though Ur Gone, a moving remembrance, leaves a lasting impression while concept tracks such as Whipped are entertaining and humourous. At times the beats provided by producers Mister K.A., Keal and surprisingly Tyna Keelan, tend to steal the spotlight with their infectious loops created using synths and clean powerful drums. Meanwhile Kapable exposes much potential on this audio insight and provides solid cuts of a dark, bass heavy, street oriented nature.
