Kara Gordon: Taking On The World

By Mahinarangi Tocker
This young singer/songwriter, and marvellous guitar player, debuts with 10 original songs. Although there are a few programmed samplers used, mostly for string arrangements, there is a positive 'live' band sound to this production. Gordon's folk to heavy metal riffs and rhythms meets well the stylish, accomplished nylon strings of Patrick Dwyer. Some songs have Creed-like elements to them which I enjoy. Most have a feeling that they'd like to be more guitar cluttered and heavy rock emoted. Sometimes, my ears tell me that they wish it were so. Gordon's songs are easy to sing along with but his voice has yet to understand its intent. He has many musical experiences to travel through before he is able to understand the many ways his voice can colour sound. And when he does, look out! For this CD, write to PO Box 40189, Glenfield. Auckland.
