HOOPLA!: Supersportleisure

By Bing Turkby
Grooving directly into your brain, Hoopla!'s songs follow the line of simplicity laid down by bands like Gang of Four to grab your attention and make your body move. The three-piece say they 'hypnotise with Farfisa keys, bass guitar, percussive thunder, love and lyric'. They are so hypnotic you could probably discover past lives by listening in the right frame of mind. Can I call it shamanic? I think I will. Waves of keys wash over solid drums and snaking basslines, with vocals layered rhythmically on top. Play it loud and you'll get close to the vibe of a Hoopla! gig, where the beat grabs you and doesn't let go. You may have already heard the song Philosophy (what do you study?) on student radio, and so know that this female three-piece aren't just in it for the groove - they have a knack for clever lyrics with a catchy melody too. With song topics ranging from the River Tigris to nightclub disasters, you know you're going to learn something as well. Take a ride and alter your consciousness with Hoopla! No adverse effects reported in clinical studies, but it's definitely habit-forming.
