INVERSE ORDER: Six

By John Carroll
Inverse Order's debut EP offers a series of well crafted and expertly recorded modern rock tracks, performed faultlessly and delivered in a polished package. The overall effect is a powerful, compelling argument that NZ-made modern rock has not lost relevance. It is heartening to hear strong compositions set alight by incendiary performances. Many modern rock contemporaries are brought to mind by the sound Inverse Order has chiseled out in 'Six', but none linger. There is emphasis placed on the cultivation of memorable melodies, and musical lines that put one foot outside the square while always leaving the other within, to retain context. All but one of the six songs on this EP are radio friendly in length, a ploy which allowed the band to stretch for a prog rock folly with The Pedestal. Make time for that last track because it's well worth it. Highly recommended rock for fans of music with substance.
