My Dying Wish: My Dying Wish

By Ania Glowacz
File under 'unusual', or just plain 'alternative', which is what this album reminds me of - to be taken with a pinch of salt and big sense of humour. My Dying Wish is Brignall Wood (ex Fang drummer), resident of Bethells Beach in west Auckland where this album was created as a 'one night a week for two years' project. It was accompanied by two press releases, one of which was part fiction then progressed to what the songs were about, and the other the truth behind the creation. It's honest and very funny in an unforced way. A concept album of sorts, it's initially strange but it soon welcomes you into its self-contained world. It's not typical or topical, or easy to describe, the closest thing would be early Beck. Almost smart-alecky but too nice to push it, cleverness lurks just below the surface, but regardless it can be enjoyed in total innocence until the day it all may uprise. Can't wait for the live show with promised dolphin performance. A concept album with a difference.
