Tempo 38: Septic Proof
By Ania Glowacz
This is hardcore from the Hawkes Bay five-piece, and is immediately appealing. 'Proper' punk rock refreshingly free of any bollocks, mis-placed melodic, emo-type whining. Tempo 38 have been doing it since the year 2000 though it seems to have taken a while to get the proof of their existence down on disc. This six-track EP was evidently recorded at Rockbottom Studios in Auckland back in 2005, and mastered at Tracks Sound Productions in Adelaide. There is evidently an Australian connection, as the lads have also done a split CD with Brisbane hardcore band Provoke, but also a slight UK feel to the overall sound that connects mid- to late-'80s hardcore with a newer sound. It's a little rough in spots and a bit of a teaser with its short duration, but unpretentious and very refreshing.
