The New Freedom: Velvet Revolution

By Nick Batt
Since returning to NZ after six years performing and recording in London, Marshall has been very busy. In 2001 he placed third in the Ovation/NZ Rockshop national songwriting competition and has since won prizes in other competitions both nationally and internationally. In fact rather b kissing u, a track from this latest album is a finalist in the International Song Competition. Marshall, is a professionally trained singer, accomplished keyboard player and programmer. Along with his musical collective Ð Adam Colegrove (bass), Fiona Holding (cello), Sergei Chesnokov, Dan Sperber, Adrian Sandberg (guitars), Sehai Orgad (guest vocals) he has produced an album with a style that is quite unique and almost defies classification. Electronic folk-pop, avant-garde atmospheric ambient, with a slight '80s twist (minus the big hair and shoulder pads) pretty much covers it. The album was produced by Marshall and recorded at Forbidden City. The quality is superb and the style is completely thenewfreedom's own. You can check out more at www.thenewfreedom.com.
