The Ponsonby DC's: That's What All The Girls Say!

By Simon Sweetman
This is the second album from Gavin Buxton and crew, arriving a mere 22 years after the band's debut album. The satire and laconic delivery are still in place, and the ear for melody remains too, channeling '60s pop one minute, Flying Nun and the 1980s EELman Records scene from Wellington the next. Songs about Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 rub shoulders with songs about Once Were Warriors. It's constantly amusing but never at the expense of a good tune, the lyrics have the satirical-but-melodic tone of The Able Tamans and The Front Lawn and this would not be out of place rubbing up against the likes of Lawrence Arabia. I'm really digging this. Please don't take another twenty plus years guys!
