Pacific Heights: In A Quiet Storm
By Martyn Pepperell
'In A Quiet Storm' is the second solo album from Shapeshifter's Devin Abrams, working under the Pacific Heights moniker. here Abrams has effortlessly transformed from the voiceless pristine Antarctic breakbeat soul of his debut solo effort 'Frozen Fears', to a lushly textured and thoroughly liquid vocal heavy exploration of lower tempo nu soul, hip hop and synth fusion music. Drawing upon a talent pool of emerging and established vocalists such as Joe Dukie, Lisa Tomlins, P Digsss, Ladi 6, Jdubs, Aeries, Mara TK, Sascha Vee and Mark Vanilau, Abrams took care of virtually all aspects of the musical composition on the album, split engineering duties with Benny Tones from Organik Muzik Workz (who also handled the vocal recording) and then called on Evan Short (formerly of Concord Dawn) to take care of the mastering. Good music, great engineering, and gorgeous packaging to boot. I love this album.
