The Tom Bosley Experience: Remix Picnic

By Jacob Connor
Earlier experiences of the Tom Bosley world left me feeling queasy and nervous - so perhaps the strangest thing about this remix disc is how much sense it makes. Peter Lewis and Sean Murgatroyd specialise in hallucinogenic space pop with a bitter aftertaste. Arbitrary reference points are Aphex, The Orb, Wendyhouse and Atari Teenage Riot. For this release, material from two previous releases has been sliced and diced by sympathetic guests including Romantech, SoNic Smith, Hummel, Sick Cycle and Lewis' own Sharkweek. There is a notable jump in fidelity and mastering is credited to Garden City musical luminary Rob Mayes. You Believe Me Don't You? would work as a promo for the Jesus Camp documentary, with its lunatic sample snippets of zealotry. Elsewhere the album is aswirl with game samples, echo, random quotes and all manner of flotsam and jetsam. Lewis and Murgatroyd have kept the TBE alive for a decade or more and their blend of determined weirdness has never been more pertinent. A psychotic idea whose time has come.
