Tadpole: The Medusa
By Claire Nelson
Someone once said "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and what wise words they are. Appropriate in the case of Tadpole, whose second album 'The Medusa' is a well-matched sister to its predecessor, their debut album 'The Buddhafinger'. Of course, this is a band with a lot more experience now and their style has developed nicely into something a little darker and melodic. Tracks like Nothing New and Condition Chronic simply ooze catchy guitar licks and the kind of haunting melodies you can find difficult to get out of your head. Most of the album is still pumped full of rock'n'roll attitude and the DJ-kick that Tadpole are known for, with Renee Brennan's individual vocals adding that extra spark to make it all gel. With the debut album having sold so heavily – almost 45,000 all up – 'The Medusa' will likely struggle to find a new audience, but one thing is for sure, this album has almost as much energy as their dynamic live performances. Out on Antenna, with distribution by EMI.
