Galloway: The Clsoer You Get The Better I Look

This album has grown on me the more I listen to it. The slick production, soothing bass lines and simple melodies come together to create a sound which is very easy on the ears, while the intertwining male and female vocals of Alan Galloway and Mo Blishen merge beautifully, forming a strong kind of symbiotic relationship. His almost Nick Cave-like candor and her sweet soulfulness would probably be unable to generate the same impact separately, but together they do form something special. This is especially apparent on the final track of the album - I Wanted To Say So, to which I've taken a particular shine to. With all the over-produced, big budget American music we often get bombarded with here in New Zealand, it's good to hear a local creation that's a whole lot more real and honest.
