Ruia: Waiata of Bob Marley 2

By Martyn Pepperell
Considering the commercial and critical success of 'Waiata of Bob Marley', it's not really very surprising that Ruia and co have struck back with a sequel. Again a collection of Maori translated songs drawing on such classic's from Bob's back catalogue as Buffalo Solider, Iron Lion Zion, Turn Your Lights Down Low, Redemption Song. Once again featuring Hareruia Aperahama on vocals (as well as lead guitar and sax) with backing from NZ's I-Three's (S. Pohe, V. Merito and E. Aperahama), the album is all tied together by the production from Simon Lynch, the current in-house producer at Stebbing's recording centre. Beautifully performed and stylistically true to the original versions of these songs, the album is a good vibes drenched testament to the impact 'Bob Marley and the Wailers' have had on Aotearoa and the Pacific.
