Coco Solid: The Radical Bad Attack

By Steph Gray
Only Erik Ultimate can get away with rhyming 'testicles' with 'vegetables' so matter-of-factly that you almost miss it - not that this is the most insouciant rhyme from either he or Coco Solid on this must-have double-disc release. With DJ Han Baby and producer ALC5 back on board, 'The Radical Bad Attack' juxtaposes 11 hot-heeled Sex tracks with 10 experimental numbers on the Science side. Coco keeps it real with words for lovers of late-nights and the 'super-deep' and Erik kicks in with his baritone monotone and some righteous words for the haters and fakes. The sassy electro-rappers have bought in friends and family with things to say - go the Grafitti Girls - and things to play (DJ Exile, Flowsion, Agent Ali, and Melissa West), plus producers Jizmatron, Extravagangsta, Sam Moore and Alan Holt. It's party music for sure, but of the kind where you end up 'shushing' your mate so you can catch the raps. This fifth independent release from Coco Solid digs deeper with acute innovation, and an inimitable style that is both minimalist and generous.
