Los Muertos: Los Muertos
By Ania Glowacz
Los Muertos are in good company. From the hardcore punk scene, they have just released their self-titled debut - and it kicks butt. Not too dissimilar to peers The Bleeders - but much bigger. Melodic hardcore melded with huge metal riffs, shimmering shards of guitar, vocal roars and incredible production. Thundering bass and drums and crushing breakdowns are just the tip of the iceberg. The quality of the production is astounding, further raising the bar for the local scene in terms of reproducing a band’s music to its best effect. Much credit must go to Zorran Mendonsa who has done a wicked job of the recording. As good as (early) Deftones- and they are masters of their game, Los Muertos have nailed it with quality songwriting and musicianship. It’s a real grower, the hooks are catchy and the songs stay in your head. Lyric subjects include screwed up friendships, the lack of quality media, youth’s missing social conscience, substance abuse... this is modern hardcore punk that ticks all the boxes for essential listening. Watch out for them live.
