Hera: Not Your Type

Hera Hjartardottir once declared her songwriting inspiration as simply 'life', and with this being her third album release, it seems there is plenty to be found in such a source. With a voice beyond her years, angel-faced Hera paints images of roses, heart-shaped soap, and rays of sunshine. But don't be fooled, Hera also makes it clear she's feisty in the opening title, the most pop-like song on the album. Quality production and delightful arrangements with harp, cello and mandolin bring out the best in these 12 sweet songs. One could describe her music as being folk in flavour, with a touch of angsty pop. 'Not Your Type' shows that Hera, (winner of the Best Female Singer award at the 2002 Icelandic Music Awards and a finalist in the 2002 USA Songwriting Competition) is successfully developing her songwriting ability. With such a distinctly international sound I have to keep reminding myself this is one of our local talents (albeit Icelandic-born).
