Haze: Word of Mouth

By Peter Dent
I knew right away this was going to be an amazing CD. From the opening drum fill of Is Life Any Better (which is a killer by the way), Glen Hayes and co. totally kick ass! The production and engineering are outstanding here. Hayes' voice and the sound of the band are intense, commercially viable, funky, American-styled rock at its best. (If you know of San Francisco quartet Imperial Drag or LA studio boffins The Mustard Seeds you'll get the picture). Hayes has been described as Invercargill's answer to Neil Finn, although his voice is possibly closer in timbre to that of Neil's son Liam in betchadupa. Stand out performances include those of monster drummer Leon McElhinney (who also plays guitars and sings backup!), Glen Hayes, and guitarist Craig Allot. Even Tim Shadbolt makes an appearance. Cool! Strongly recommended. Check out www.haze-band.co.nz or write to Glen at 71 Thornhill Street, Invercargill.
