Will Martin: A New World
By P M Berry
This young man declares his ambition to be the next great ‘popera’ artist and he may well be just that, as it seems he has potential which far extends these shores. A wise selection of tracks showcase his vocal talent to great effect, including the traditional Italian tune, (this time the Cinema Paradiso theme), a choice jazz standard Nature Boy, the theme from Lord of the Rings, (which was also covered by Yulia), plus infallible classical piece, Albinoni’s sad theme Adagio. The parts of his voice that remind me of the fabulous Josh Grogan are my favourite. His training and diction are flawless, the tuning and tunes glorious. He has less of the blues and pop sensibility that Grogan has, but at age 22 apparently Will Martin has paid his dues via cruise ships and performing every kind of music necessary to the entertainment of the people. Thus armed with this recording, which is of an international genesis and standard, he is fully ready for the world and it’s a no brainer, he is going a long way. Satisfaction is guaranteed and repeated listenings are effortless. Ideal for Christmas. Don't hold back.
