Trip To The Moon: Welcome To The Big Room

Trip To The Moon consists of Tom Ludvigson and Trevor Reekie, both of whom bring a lifetime of experience to this occasional project. The music of Trip To The Moon is often filed away under instrumental background music - and indeed can frequently be heard in television, film and documentary soundtracks; electronica becoming esoterica. But one good listen to this unheralded release (their fifth)reveals that there is a lot more going on than just vague background music - and even so, as background music - it is a well-crafted set of sounds. I cannot get hugely excited by this record, because I have heard these guys do this for many years and the results are always high-class, but never more than gently bewildering. It’s hard to fault - but for me I’d prefer the edge of Boards Of Canada or the happy vibe of Disasteradio. But that’s just me - and Trip To The Moon is a duo that makes very slick, likeable music.
