Various: Conscious Root 4

What a brilliant way to enjoy a lazy summer day, listening to this array of our quality local roots and reggae talent. The Conscious Roots series, compiled by A Moving Production for EMI NZ, hasn’t disappointed yet, giving support to up and coming artists alongside those who have achieved national success. On this fourth volume, shining tracks for me are Island In the Sun solely written by Ngaheke O’Caroll aka Nga, and This Thing Called Life by Royala, previously of the Kingites, mainly due to the quality and richness of their vocals. These newish kids on the block are joined by various artists familiar to summer festival goers like Cornerstone Roots, dDub, Katchafire, Unity Pacific Batucada Sound Machine and the super talented Three Houses Down whanau. Of the 15 tracks seven are previously unreleased. This collection was mastered by Chris Winchcomb at York Street Studios. Lets hope it eventually gets the international distribution and recognition these artists deserve.
