Redline: Trapped Inside

By Stephanie Corne
Calling all NZ rock enthusiasts, teenage boys and Subaru drivers, Redline has released their debut mini album ‘Trapped Inside’. Redline present a tidy package loaded with plenty of melodic choruses married to solid riffs, some heavy bass, rolling drum beats and rock/metal vocals. A polished piece of rock fodder, the production is crisp, riffs hit the mark and each of the seven songs seem fully realised, providing great crossover appeal with those liking their rock a little heavier than most radio does. These guys are tight and one can’t fault the production or musicianship, though the sound can tend to feel a bit predictable and slightly derivative - from the local front Blindspott’s legacy shows through. Although Redline may not yet be the most innovative rock band on the track, they definitely know all aspects of their niche and these tracks will no doubt be the feature of many a driving playlist around west Auckland. Certainly a convincing debut, the album shows strong musical direction and with the help of producer Paul Matthews Redline do a great job of keeping the revs up for the half hour album duration.
