Andrew White: Traces Of Silver
By Simon Sweetman
Andrew White is a highly talented player and writer. His mix of Celtic and folk acoustic playing is the sort of music that fans of Luke Hurley and Paul Ubana Jones would instantly enjoy; and - outside of New Zealand - if you have any interest in players like Richard Thompson or Bert Jansch then White is definitely worth checking out. His finger-style guitar playing is the highlight here but his passionate vocal delivery (particularly on Here Comes The Rain) is not to be ignored. Andrew White has had success with his low key tours around the country - seeing him live is on a par with watching one of the great masters like Tommy Emmanuel - and indeed he has had deserved international acclaim. Recorded in a barn in Nova Scotia with Rob Poland from CandyRat, ‘Traces Of Silver’ is one of his strongest albums and deserves to serve him the dual honour of gaining new fans as well as satiating the already converted.
